What We Do With What You Send Us

When you use the Share a Story form, we collect what you type in it: your account of what happened, where and roughly when it happened, your email address, any name or alias you choose to give us, and any links or files you attach. Our server also keeps a one-way scrambled record of your network address to stop automated spam, which we cannot turn back into an address.

When you use our contact form or email us directly, we keep the message and your contact details so we can reply.

To read your story, decide whether our team can take it further, and get back in touch with you about it. That is the whole purpose.

Ernest and the small team who help with this work. Submissions are stored privately and are not published, listed publicly, or readable by other visitors. Files you upload are kept in private storage.

We use ordinary service providers to run the website, its database, and our email. They process this information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We will not publish your story, your name, or your materials, or identify you as a source, without asking you first and getting your permission for that specific use. Submitting a story is not permission to publish it.

We will not sell your information, add you to a marketing list because you submitted a story, or use your submission in research or reports without asking you separately.

Please note that giving us only an alias does not make a submission anonymous, because we still have your email address. We cannot promise absolute confidentiality.

We keep submissions for as long as they may still matter to this work, and we remove them when they no longer do. If you want your submission and any files deleted, email us and we will remove them.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for corrections, or ask us to delete it. Write to info@ernestcrim.com and we will take care of it.

These forms are not monitored around the clock and are not a way to report an emergency. If someone is in danger, please contact local emergency services.
